How We Partner

BSI has extensive experience in the Specialized Contact Administrators field. Some of the clients the we serve, who have greatly helped us to gain more knowledge in the field by allowing us to work with them and revise our practices, include Security Contractors, Facilities Maintenance, Transportation, Mail Haulers, Janitorial, Debt Collection and Construction.

Although we have a big list of areas that we focus on, our largest has been in the Security Contracting Environment, where we have over fifteen different employers currently in the security field alone, with our first contract acquirement in the early 90’s. We are currently the benefits provider or plan administrator for many unions that work with prevailing wage employers. We provide all the same services to the unions members that we would to a more traditional employer.

We will travel to the sites when necessary to meet with the employees and go over any questions they have on their benefits. We try to schedule this to coincide with the open enrollment period whenever possible. We also visit anytime we are asked to, whether it’s a large training class that is planning to come on board, a change in the contract has occurred, or the employer simply feels the employees would benefit from a visit.

At BSI Companies we go the extra mile to begin working with our employers even before the bid has been awarded. We consult with employers during the bid process to help them get the best idea of their cost and benefits needs  before they bid. We work with he employer on implementation to make sure the contract whether it be a new award, renewal, or a takeover goes smoothly and the employees can feel confident in their new employer. We also work hard with the employer to educate the employees whenever possible so they understand how to best utilize their benefits and fringe allocations. All of this and our Specialized knowledge add up to a true partnership with our employers. As you grow your business so does ours.

Our Core Values

  • Be responsive—Answer the phone and work hard to answer every concern in 24 hours or less.
  • Be available—Our clients have minimal time to connect with us. We must be available when the client is.
  • Be ethical—Every decision, every day.
  • Be learning—Every situation, every problem, and every client can be learned from.
  • Be the best—At everything you do.
  • Be sympathetic—Empathize, regardless of where fault lies.
  • Be communicative—With employers and employees.
  • Be agile—Sell what the client needs, not what you want to sell.
  • Be strong—Fight for the client’s needs at all time.
  • Be respectful—To all clients, employee and vendors.
  • Be honest—The truth never has to remember to be retold.

History

Benefit Source, Inc. (BSI Companies) has been fulfilling the needs of employers since the 1980’s. Robert P. Harling, Agency Principal and President of BSI, began his career as a Life and Health Agent for group voluntary and specialized health products. With his prior experience as an employer who provided services to the government on a contract basis, Bob Harling found that this experience uniquely suited him to focus on the Prevailing Wage Benefit Administration.

BSI Companies consults, designs, and implements specialized benefits packages for those businesses that require more than the traditional services a health insurance broker or third party administrator provides. BSI designs Bona Fide Health, Retirement, and supplemental benefit plans for employers nationwide. BSI is an experienced source for niche markets with a focus on Government Contractors that perform SCA, Davis Bacon, ATSA, State Prevailing Wage work, and Taft Hartly groups. We train teams with the knowledge they need of these markets to implement and service all facets of their benefit needs. BSI handles their client’s needs from implementation throughout the life of the plans, which includes all reporting needs to satisfy the employer’s unique workforce.

In 2006, BSI formed a Third Party Administration Company named Specialized Contract Administrators (SCA). This TPA was formed so that BSI could broaden their service offerings to the clients, because we felt that our client’s unique needs could not be met by other TPAs.  Some SCA services include hourly contribution benefit plans, bill reconciliation, claims payment, enrollment, hour banking, compliance, COBRA, Worker’s Compensation, Bona Fide Trust Administration and HRA plan administration. We created our systems for hourly-based fringe accumulation and have met the needs with phenomenal success.
