Robert P. (Bob) Harling
Bob Harling began his career in the restaurant business in 1967. It was here that he learned how to navigate the challenges of working with government contracts. And, it was here that he saw a gap that needed to be filled. That gap was health insurance coverage for his workforce. Due to the transient nature of restaurant workers, most carriers refused coverage.
So in 1990, Bob changed his career path, entered the insurance business by founding Benefit Source, Inc. (BSI), and closed that gap. He took his knowledge of working with government contracts and provided benefits solutions that helped people achieve their personal and business goals.
Since then, BSI has grown exponentially through Bob’s vision, acquisitions, and willingness to be available to clients whenever needed.
Bob holds a BS in marketing from the University of South Carolina.
Robert (Beau) Perry Harling, Jr
Beau joined BSI in July,1999 and began working in the property and casualty side of the business. His true passion, however, was working with employer benefit plans. In the early 2000’s, he decided to follow his passion and transitioned to employer sponsored health benefit and retirement plans.
He has been a leader in the field of hourly based benefits his entire career. Beau has designed new plan offerings and consulted on the design and implementation of hourly based programs for national carriers and administrators. He is an expert in the field of fringe administration and health and welfare employers. His client list includes several unions with whom he has created union sponsored plans that meet the membership and employer’s requirements. Beau works extensively with collective bargaining employers and their employees to provide flexible and personalized service for long-term success.
Beau’s primary focus is on larger employers, government contractors and unions on a national basis. He has extensive experience in both defined benefit and defined contribution plans and is an expert in creating multiple and multi-employer 401(k) plans.
By staying ahead of the curve, embracing new technology, and continually nurturing client relationships, Beau has established his leadership position in the retirement and employee benefits industry.
Dawn Steadman is the Vice President of Claims for Specialized Contract Administrators (SCA) in our North Carolina office. She supervises the claims staff and is responsible for claims management from investigation to resolution, including coordination of medical treatment and litigation activity.
She testifies at Industrial Commission hearings, participates in mediated settlement conferences and gives instructional seminars on industry related topics. She has been a national speaker at the Self Insurance Institute and had an article published in Risk Financing Perspective, “Understanding Third Party Claims Service Costs,” in 2011.
Ms. Steadman earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University in 1988 and began her work in the claims industry that same year.
In this ever changing, high-tech insurance world, she has not lost touch with the fact that clients need someone to know their industry and to work with them as a partner rather than just as an administrator.
Athena, our Risk Account Manager, began her claims career in 2001 earning her CPT and ICD-9 license. In 2003, she joined the TPA business as an Excess/Stop Loss Coordinator and eligibility. An integral part of our Specialized Contract Administrators team, Athena is a licensed Property and Casualty Producer who coordinates services for self-insured workers’ compensation clients, manages state reporting, and risk management reporting. She also completed a ten-hour Occupational Safety and Health training course in General Industry Safety and Health.
